The Story Behind Every Project
Mayfield Site Contractors, Inc. was born in the summer of 1994 from a single conviction: that Pennsylvania's commercial developers deserved a site contractor they could genuinely rely on. Robert Mayfield Sr., a third-generation construction professional who had spent two decades working in earthwork and underground utilities throughout the Philadelphia suburbs, founded the company with a single excavator and a crew of five out of a small office on Swedeland Road in King of Prussia.
The early years were defined by relentless hustle and a reputation for showing up — on time, fully prepared, and ready to solve problems before they became someone else's nightmare. Mayfield built its first loyal client base on small commercial pad sites and retail strip centers throughout Montgomery and Chester counties. The quality of the work spoke loudly. Repeat business followed. Word traveled through the developer community.
By the early 2000s, the company had grown into a full-service site contracting operation, taking on its first municipal infrastructure contracts for Montgomery County and several suburban townships. The addition of licensed professional engineers to the staff transformed Mayfield from a capable contractor into a genuine construction partner — one that could read a set of civil drawings, identify design conflicts, and propose solutions that saved clients time and money.
The 2008 economic crisis tested every contractor in the region. Mayfield's conservative financial management and deep municipal relationships carried the company through while competitors stumbled. Emerging stronger, Mayfield expanded its equipment fleet and headcount, positioning for the commercial development boom that would follow. By 2012, the company was regularly executing projects valued in excess of $10 million — full commercial site packages from clearing to paving.
Robert Mayfield Jr. joined the firm as Vice President of Operations in 2010, bringing a civil engineering degree from Penn State and a digital-native mindset that accelerated the company's adoption of GPS machine control, 3D grade management, and drone-based surveying technology. Projects that once required weeks of staking and layout were accomplished in days. Schedule compression became a Mayfield competitive advantage.
Today, celebrating over thirty years of uninterrupted Pennsylvania operation, Mayfield Site Contractors stands as one of the region's most trusted names in heavy civil construction. With more than 7,000 completed projects, a safety record that has earned consecutive recognition from the Pennsylvania Contractors Association, and a crew of over 150 dedicated professionals, the company that Robert Mayfield Sr. built from a single machine continues to lay the foundations on which communities grow.

What Our Clients Say

“Mayfield handled our 28-acre site in Malvern from raw land to finished grade. Their self-performance model was the differentiator — no layers of subcontractors, no finger-pointing. The superintendent ran it like a military operation. We were three weeks ahead of our GC's start date. We've used them on four projects since and won't use anyone else.”
